This is a very stretchy neck warmer hat pattern that can fit both adults and children.

Finished Size Measurement

  • Height: 20cm
  • Circumference: 26cm, stretches to 56cm

This one size fits from toddlers to adults. If you want a larger size, try using larger needles.

Gauge

13 stitches and 17 rows = 10 cm in stockinette stitch with 7mm needles

Materials

  • Needles
    • For the body: 1 circular needle of 7mm or size needed to obtain gauge
    • For the hem: 1 circular needle of 6mm, and another spare circular needle of 6mm or smaller for joining the 2 layers
  • Bulky weight yarn
    • For the 1st color yarn: approximately 30m
    • For the 2nd color yarn: approximately 20m
    • For the 3rd color yarn: approximately 20m
  • A waste yarn of approximately 1.5m for the Provisional Cast-On

  • K2tog: knit 2 stitches together (decreasing 1 stitch)

Pattern Instructions

Hem

Using the 1st color yarn, cast on 48 sts with the Provisional Cast-On using a 6mm circular needle.

  • Rnd 1~7: *K3, P3; repeat from * to end of round
  • Rnd 8: (the folding line) P to end of round
  • Rnd 9~15: *K3, P3; repeat from * to end of round

Remove the waste yarn used for Provisional Cast-On and move the stitches to the spare circular needle. Fold the hem to the inside, Rnd 8 being the folding line, and knit/purl the stitches of both layers together to join them.

Body

Switch to 7mm circular needle

  • Rnd 1~5: *K3, P3; repeat from * to end of round (48 sts)

Switch to 2nd color yarn

  • Rnd 1: K to end of round
  • Rnd 2: Sl1 for jogless color changing, K2, P3, *K3, P3; repeat from * to end of round (48 sts)
  • Rnd 3~12: *K3, P3; repeat from * to end of round

Switch to 3rd color yarn

  • Rnd 1: K to end of round
  • Rnd 2: Sl1 for jogless color changing, K2, P3, *K3, P3; repeat from * to end of round (48 sts)
  • Rnd 3~10: *K3, P3; repeat from * to end of round
  • Rnd 11: (the eyelet round) *K1, K2tog, yo, P1, P2tog, yo; repeat from * to end of round (48 sts)
  • Rnd 12~13: *K3, P3; repeat from * to end of round

Bind off with JSSBO and weave in ends.

Drawstring

  1. Cut 2 strands of yarn, 70cm long each
  2. Thread one strand through all the eyelets, over purl stitches and under knit stitches
  3. Repeat the previous step with another yarn, but this time starting from the opposite side
  4. For each thread, make a double knot at the ends so that the yarn won’t fall out
